A White Christmas

A White Christmas, yes, it is.

Manchester has snowed heavily, and a White Christmas has come to me. It has come to me so fast, that it is almost shocking to me. There is a slanted window in my room in Whitworth Park, which has given me a very good view of the scene outside. Before it came the dominant color is golden, to put the time more precisely it would be around the afternoon. The branches, the maple leaves and the stubby blades of grass are all golden, chanting the residual glory of the Sun who barely clawed itself up towards the middle of the firmament before sliding down to the horizontal oblivion.

Then it came, silently. No warning, no sound, nothing like the splattering of rain. It sinks gracefully from the sky, like a soft feather, and liquifies as it touches the window panes. And then another arrives, and another, and they go on and on, so many of them until the former ones give themselves up to liquify. I strain my eyes, painfully to look at who they are, and I see them, the hexagonal fairies, who until this moment existed as a legend in the books on chemistry.

And then everything is white. It is here, the White Christmas. Time has come for snowball skirmishes and Mr. Frosty.
